FAQ about MoW! on the Move
MoW! is the acronym for Montre(Olly)Wood, for Bollywood dance in Montreal! We also named it OttaWoW, for our project in Ottawa and since then, many communities joined the ride! The 25 min. community choreographic project combines contemporary dance and Bollywood, which is performed by a large group of up to 150 dancers. They rehearse and create their own movements a few months together, accompanied by professional dancers also.
The choreography was originally co-created in 2016 by multi-award winners, contemporary choreographer Roger Sinha and Bollywood choreographer Deepali Lindblom.
Is it for all ages?
12 years old and up (12-15 must be accompanied by the parent).
Do I need to know how to dance?
No dance experience necessary, this contemporary/Bollywood community dance project is geared toward non-professional dancers of all generations and cultures. You just have to be enthusiastic, reasonably fit and committed to the project. You will be assisted by a wonderful team of professionals who will be part of the teaching team and who will join you in the final performances.
Dancers with experience are also very welcome to join our group!
Note this project is volunteer based.
Can I miss rehearsals?
Yes, occasionally but you must be able to catch up and continue learning the choreography. You may also practice at home with videos.
Testimonials from past MoW! participants
“I had a wonderful experience with this group. Seeing us growing together, I felt in my place. MoW! and Roger’s team trusted me, they were able to integrate me, despite my imperfections. I made new friends in MoW!. It gave me wings.”
-Claude, 71 years old
“MoW was more than simply a choreography, it’s a lifestyle full of joy, happiness and mostly friendships. Roger, it was an honor dancing by your side and I testify without a doubt that you touched every one of us directly to our hearts with your passion, humour and love for the Bollywood style. Bollywood Love Stories always end well… Bravo!!!”
-Vanessa, 29 years old
“As a newcomer in Canada, this was an opportunity that allowed me to meet people and to make new friends. Also, Mow! let me be a part of a group and feel integrated and less lonely in an environment where the people are very nice but often closed on themselves. Mow! is a good example of openness that we have to maintain, develop and sustain.”
-Malika, 55 years old
