“2m/Solitudes” is a poetic cine-dance piece studying the effects of isolation and social distancing. Originally inspired by the experience of the global pandemic, the film dives into the daily life of four characters facing different challenges related to loneliness and the absence of human touch. Eventually, they find a way to transcend their solitudes, overcome isolation, and reconnect in a new way.
The film, highlighted by original music composed by Tim Brady, Helmut Lipsky, and Shawn Mativestsky (commonly known as “Of Sound, Mind and Body”), evokes melancholy, hope, and resilience. This musical universe perfectly accompanies the dancers’ movements, while intensifying the characters’ emotions.
As the film progresses, the paths of four characters eventually cross in a grandiose, white, and uncluttered space that embodies the possibility of a new beginning. Despite their physical distance, it is through their collaborative artistic performances that the characters manage to reconnect with each other.
“2m/Solitudes” is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit and the ability of art to break down barriers. This short film reminds us of the importance of creativity and artistic expression in overcoming difficult times and of the value of interdependence. Despite our apparent differences, there’s a lot more that binds us together than we think…
** Please note that there is a short version of 2m/Solitudes called Shared Breath.
