SHARED BREATH

2023 / 40:00 MINUTES

Shared Breath is a poetic and meditative piece that inspires us to reflect on isolation and the essential need for others.

Created by an extraordinary artistic team, Shared Breath features Roger Sinha’s daring choreography and original music composed and performed by Of Sound, Mind and Body, including Tim Brady on electric guitar, Helmut Lipsky on violin, and Shawn Mativetsky on Indian tabla and percussion. This introspective piece reveals emotional states and internal experiences resulting from isolation and the absence of the other.

At the origin of the piece, an urban space and a vision of performers wearing square structures, representing the social framework. Attached to their waist, the constructions restrict their movements and force the performers to find new ways of existing and relating to others. This musical, spatial and relational journey deeply questions the most intimate aspects of our being. In the choreography, moments of imbalance, agitation and insecurity are counterbalanced by moments of acceptance, resilience and connection. Eventually, they manage to clear a common path, a sign of transformation and renewal.
